Sears & Roebuck Mailorder Homes

February 27, 2012 by Molinda Goforth 1 Comment

From 1908 until 1940 Sears offered 370 models of homes to choose from.  One was a bungalow called “the Osborn”

You could follow the instructions found in a 75 page book and assemble more   than 29,000 pieces in 90 days.  Homes cost from $500.00.

Recap:  This is my role model – to provide a book of instructions to build your own little house and Live big. Soon this resource will be offered.

Now,  onward to continue our house hunt.  Are we having fun?

I guess at some point it was decided this was no longer a good idea, but I can’t figure out why. I’m going to go look and see if anyone still sells houses in kits.

    Thanks for another great post!
