Travel Tips For Safety….Let’s Go!

September 24…Today would have been my Dad’s birthday…He reared  me, taught me about cars and numbers. Love you Daddy. I was your trooper. Now, I am your traveler.

It has been a good day. I put power steering fluid in my car. It’s time to share a post  safety checks for traveling alone.  If you drive a car, these checks should be part of your routine.

Only taking short trips?  Do these checks at least once each month.

5,000 miles ago, the service department suggested I have my power steering unit replaced.  It was close to $400.00 and my car was performing nicely. I decided to wait, save for the repair and in the meantime watch the fluid level.

Since then, I have added a little power steering fluid.  Note I said a little.  It cost 3.25 cents and because I had always done the checks I am going to share I had put some in about 8 months before they suggested I replace the unit.  Apparently a little is blowing out when I drive. Over 12,000 miles have rolled since I first noticed it.  Usually, I have a repair done as soon as I know it is needed.  Watching pennies, it seemed a wise choice to wait.

This post is not to influence you to ignore service request. It is great to be aware of a potential bill in the future and to be safe for now.

Learn to listen for different sounds in your car.  A whining, could indicate you need power steering fluid.  Screeching, may be your brakes need attention.  A hard shift in the first couple of minutes, may be your transmission calling you. Always check your gauges on the dashboard of your car.  Hear a popping noise when you back up?  Your universal joints may need attention.

Do an open hood walk around.  I have been to many service places dealerships for my Dodge and they have constantly dodged the important parts for my car. I like my car.  I do not like the service I have received for it.

You have AAA or roadside service?  Great, so do I but I don’t want to be sitting beside the road where phone service is choppy and the weather is either a gusher of water or 95 degrees and humid. So, I do my own preventative maintenance. I suggest you do the same.

There is a lever under your steering wheel to release your hood.  Then in the center of your car feel for the latch and move it until you hear the release and raise your hood.  A thin rod to hold the hood up is in the front.

Walk around. Your manual will note checkpoints are painted yellow.  I am including pictures for you.

My power steering fluid was low this morning and my car just made a whining noise when I turned the wheel.  I stopped at auto zone and got power steering fluid.Take the cap off. A little stick gauge is attached with a note to add fluid if it is below the line.  I added fluid, waited and it went down a bit. Next I checked the gauge again and added a little more being careful not to overfill.

Windshield fluid   –  Okay

Oil  –  full according to the oil stick

The stick to check the oil is in one place and the place to add oil in another.

Next I did a walk around to check my lights… pushing the button to unlock my doors.. I pushed the button so I could confirm all my lights were working.  Look what I found!

See the little broken piece.

A local  mechanics estimate was  $293.00 to replace the entire unit. That too will wait. My lights work just fine.  If I replace the entire unit, I will have to do the other side as well.  Otherwise, one headlight will be clear and beautiful and the other one has a yellow haze.

Amazon has one for less than $150. If I find someone who will do the labor for $100.00, I will be happy!  I choose carefully my expenditures for the car.  The savings are applied to travel.

Tire gauge…I don’t check my tires a lot as they are pretty new. Out of habit,  I always look before I drive  to confirm they are all inflated. I keep a tire gauge in my glove box to verify if one appears to be  low.  You can find the amount of suggested tire pressure on a label inside the door of your car.

Get rear ended?  Car won’t start? Most likely you have an emergency button inside the trunk  and near the lock for accidents like this.  It makes the engine stop to lessen the likelihood of your vehicle catching on fire.  If you find and push the button, your car may start.

Carrying a tire gauge, a gallon of water, paper towels…and window cleaner seems to be necessary gear for your car.  While you are filling the car kit, add some crackers, canned meat, a flashlight and a light blanket. You are prepared for a trip. For Christmas gifts I will give family members a little car survival kit including a notebook .

Because I travel to different states and places, I keep an emergency notebook in the trunk.  It contains insurance information (medical) copies of the credit cards or other information usually found in my purse.  I like knowing information is in two places in the event I misplace my purse.

Let me know if I have left anything out!  Safe Travels!.

Go forth and Prosper,

When God Says No and I Say Yes

May 18, 2018 by Molinda Goforth Leave a Comment

Starting My Trip

Recently, I heard 3 adults raise the tone of their voice  and say to little people:  “Listen to me.”

Oh, I bet you have heard that conversation too – “Listen to me.You aren’t listening. Did you hear what I said?” Perhaps it continues like this, “I said no.  Why did you do that when I told you not too?  I heard you and the Answer is No! Why? Because I said so and if you continue you will be in trouble.”

“Your behavior isn’t acceptable.  I said NO! I mean it.”

How many times have I heard this dialogue?  How many times have I been a participant?

My trip was going to happen. I did my goals, made a plan and worked the  plan. I wasn’t listening to anyone!

Some problems had not been addressed. I thought I can fix my problems when I arrive. So, I packed them in the car to travel.  I told everyone close to me… anywhere in Tennessee will be fine.

This is how the No chapter started and began its decent.

God, Are you Silently Speaking?

I felt hesitation from the Spirit in my soul and ignored it.  My sister-in-law agreed to fly to Montana and take the 2200 mile drive with me.  I planned and packed every day. We would leave on the 13th.

I know God was trying to get my attention when focusing seemed impossible.  I felt guilty and looked around to see if I had done something wrong. I had employment in Tennessee. I had a promise of an available house. I had constantly expressed the wish to be there.

Something felt Wrong. Have you ever had those feelings?

Two days before the trip a winter storm warning was issued.  Six inches of snow was predicted along with dangerous winds.  I sent the weather map to my sister- in- law. She canceled her flight.  Oops, now I needed to drive alone. No problem I have driven this 3 times…why was I doused with dread?

God did not coin the word Dread.  Dread is closely related to Fear.

Fear Does Not come From God

Is it true God is interested in our everyday activities?  Does he really care and try to communicate when we procrastinate or make a decision not in our best interest?

When a child rebels against  parental instruction, there are consequences.  When God says no and we don’t listen there will be consequences.

Travel Time

I fully intended to meet my goal, so continued with MY plan and started my trip.  Pulling out of the drive, the tears started and wouldn’t stop. About 100 miles down the road I pulled over called my son to hear a human voice say, “Why don’t you come back?”  I turned that car around and my spirit soared.

Hello, God, I hear you. I sang all the way home.

Is Gods’ No forever? I believe he answers Yes, No or Wait.  I am in the waiting zone.  I am sure I will return to the South and I believe I know the general date.

How does God speak?

God was loud and clear when the living accommodations were no longer available.

He  tone was loud, visual and an astounding No when the National Weather Service issued  a winter storm warning. My sister-in-law said No. The storm did not come.

I promised God I will be debt free.  Most of this trip would have been on credit.  (Yikes, I didn’t need to ask …I know his Word says According to Proverbs 22:7 (NIV), “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” Starting my trip as a Slave wasn’t wise.  When I turned to come back this scripture came to mind.  One problem packed in the trunk was money.  I need to earn some to make for this trip.

Influence

My dad was driving an 18 wheeler when he composed a song…He had just driven his rig to the top of a mountain and pulled to the side. The fog was heavy. Visability was almost zero. He pulled the rig to the side of the road, thinking he remembered the space allowed.  While waiting for the fog to clear a song came to him.

Song

“I was on the downward road, the fog was Heavy and so was my load, something spoke to me and said, repent of your sins and your load I’ll  bear.   Let the Lord come in.

The Lord came in, I had no fear, the fog was gone and the road was clear. Since that day and since that hour, I  can feel His holy power. I let the Lord come in.

The part not in the song……His heart was pounding, he felt fear. he pulled over to accept God.  From his story, immediately, the fog cleared.  When the road was clear, he got out to see how far off the road he had parked. His tires were on the edge of a cliff…one that had claimed many truckers lives as they went over!  I learned this song from him when I was little . I wrote the music for it and as a family we sang it whenever we were together.

When God says No…heed His instructions. When we say Yes and God says No does he love us?   God loves us all the time.Given free choice we make a decision and the results may not be in our best interest.  God is polite.  He doesn’t interrupt us when we speak. He pays attention.  Does he speak to us? In his Word the scripture says —

“Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” Jeremiah 33:3.

I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalms 119: 105.

He speaks through the written word in the Bible. I believe he speaks through our circumstances.

I am a spontaneous person.  In the future I want to add restraint and take time to ask God’s advice before making goals and setting plans in place. Do I wonder how the trip would have ended?  Of course.  I felt awful to call and say I cannot accept the job you offered.  I disappointed many friends.

My granddaughter experienced the sadness of saying farewell.  All would have been avoided if I had listened first to the No Credit allowed and made my decision.  Along the way came the  other messages.

I hear the sound of distant drums
Far away, far away
And if they call for me to come
Then I must go….. For now,

I will be content in Montana, until I hear His call.  I had not planned to post until May 13th.  A girl can change her mind you know, and I feel  a heavy urge to share…and to ask

What have you done when God said No and You said Yes?

How about we…. adhere to   3 John 1:2  Beloved, I desire that in all things thou shouldest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.

Much love,

Molinda Sue

 Travel for  May and June

Why am I traveling?

My plan to stay on track for my best year ever means revisiting some places in order to rewrite my story the right way. Some mistakes I have made are very obvious. It’s exciting to have the opportunity change the narrative. I give thanks for the right seeds that have grown!

I shared my Heart with God, the broken pieces and asked Him to mend it, seam me together.  Some trips are divine  Spirit Driven with resistance from me.  Others are sheer pleasure, my desires being met as they are in accordance with God’s Will for my life!

May 1 through May 21 Charlotte, N.C.  I have many friends in Charlotte. I did not visit with anyone, not even the landlord for the facility I rented!  My room and bathroom became my home and Shiloh,

1 Samuel 3:21: “The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.”  Some of my friends have an altar in their home.  Since I am not stationary, I find my corner of Shiloh where ever I am staying.

May 21  travel from Charlotte to Spartanburg S.C.  Two days with family, friends and work!  Car maintenance, appointments  made, shopping for the event in Franklin…fun things to do filled these two days.

Victory Is Ready To Roll!

May 23….Travel to Woodbridge, Virginia. My agenda will be to attend as many Apple classes as possible, work diligently to complete a draft of my book and to  complete 3 online courses. Speaking of Courses, one is specifically for blogging…more on this course in a separate post!

June 6…..Travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina   (tentative may go straight to Middlesboro, Kentucky)

June 7th   Travel to Middlesboro, Kentucky for Spiritual Blessings with family and friends.  Stop in Maynardville, Tennessee which is on the way,  to add the final belongs to my storage building.

Planning Travel Calendar

May 23, 2017 by Molinda Goforth Leave a Comment

Hello Monday, It’s Time To Travel

Tho, I said goodbye to yesterday, I don’t want to leave the wonderful memories behind me!  My son ran the Marine Corps Half  Marathon yesterday.  I have observed his challenges being a bit older, a repaired knee, torn hamstring during training and some normal life opposition. His focus amazed me.  It fueled my energy to move forward!

My intentions are to blog frequently, documenting my life, what I am doing and how.  Travel is dominant for the remainder of May and until June 22..  Along the blogging way I may leave out some important information. I have been perfecting this travel mobile life quietly for the past 3 years. Some things have become habit.  I welcome your comments, suggestions, questions and thoughts!

My split personality allows me to be spontaneous. My Virgo sign demands organization.  My overall word for this year is Organize.  God hears my prayer each morning and the quietness I give to Him to monitor my steps and guide me each day!

First, I need to share the Travel Calendar.  It’s coming right up on the next post.   Almost time to get on the road again. My little red cars name is Victory.  She got a maintenance visit today and is ready to roll.

go forth and prosper

Two Thousand Miles Away from Home!

August 15, 2016 by Molinda Goforth Leave a Comment

It has been so much fun to drive across country see people I haven’t seen in 3 years.  Did you realize we look older after 3 years?  Now, why is it some folks look younger after 3 years.

My judgement of appearance was those people who were happy, at a great weight and at peace seemed younger than I remembered. Other friends had endured hardships, hung onto them and the weight of the world had taken a toll.

For the journey, I promised to post everyday.   I have had a meeting with myself and the self that does not keep her word is Fired!

Here we are destination Woodbridge, Virginia.  My last stop and task for this trip was to stop in Durham, NC and see the surgeon who fixed my foot.  As you know, it wasn’t fixed has gotten progressively worse each day for 3 years. He was sad that his fix did not work.  He assured me, he could fix it!  While that maybe my option, my next task is for a second opinion.

I have an appointment at John Hopkins September the 8th!  I am excited as this is the number one hospital and looking forward to the Verdict!
